Janis Freegard was born in South Shields in the UK and grew up in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.   The Year of Falling, her first novel, was published by Mākaro Press in 2015, at the same time as her latest poetry collection, The Glass Rooster (Auckland University Press). She is a past winner of the BNZ Katherine Mansfield Award and lives in Wellington, New Zealand.
